Gov. Jeb Bush appointed an official with the Department of Corrections to take over the Department of Juvenile Justice on an interim basis. C. George Denman began working last week as interim secretary of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Secretary Bill Bankhead, who has been battling cancer, asked for 120-day medical leave last week. Bush said last Monday that Denman had extensive experience in both education and public safety. As a deputy secretary at the state Department of Corrections, Denman manages institutional operations, inmate education, substance abuse programs and security. He was a public school teacher before joining the Department of Corrections. |
