| Jail renovation stopgap for growing population |

SPRINGDALE, AR - A $50,000 renovation to Springdale's jail will only be a stopgap, if the city joins a program to check the legal status of aliens. Police Chief Kathy O'Kelley told members of the City Council's Police and Fire Committee the renovations are needed, but the requirements of the 287(g) program could swamp even a renovated jail.
