Payday for state hospital workers

NAPA, CA - Following recent union pickets at Napa State Hospital, workers here and at other California mental health institutions celebrated a victory last week.

Sacramento-based U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton released a written order May 23 mandating equal pay between employees working at the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation — a ruling aimed at stemming the exodus of mental health workers from state hospitals to better-paying, nearly identical positions within California’s prison system.
