| Senate to investigate state prisons |

COLUMBIA, SC - State senators have begun an investigation into possible misconduct in the state prison system. A seven-member committee will review the allegations and listen to testimony this summer, said Sen. Mike Fair, R-Greenville, and chairman of the Senate Corrections and Penology Committee Fair said his committee has received a number of allegations of "mismanagement, misconduct and other wrongdoings," but he refused to give details. The Corrections Department welcomes the investigation and will help the committee in any way it can, spokesman Josh Gelinas said. Read more.
