| Senate panel changes prison bill |

RENO, NV - The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and Thursday changed the dates for those inmates who will have their good-time credits recalculated. Instead of calculating for their past 10 years in prison, the plan will calculate only last year's time in prison. That means far fewer inmates would be eligible for immediate parole. Department of Corrections officials had said applying the new good-time credit from 1997 would mean about 1,500 inmates could leave prison. Corrections spokesman Greg Smith said Thursday the new plan will mean fewer releases but declined to speculate on a number. Read more.
