SINGAPORE - An Alberta man who made hoax calls to the police claiming there was a terrorist on-board an Air India flight was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison by a Singapore court yesterday. District Judge Victor Yeo convicted Nanda Sudhir Kumar, 53, of three counts of "communicating false threats of terrorism acts," an offence under UN Anti-Terrorism Regulations, a set of laws the city-state adopted after 9/11. Kumar, whose hometown was not immediately available, made three calls from public phones to the police Nov. 6 alleging a terrorist was on-board an Air India flight from Singapore to New Delhi and would crash the plane that day, court documents showed. |
