MIAMI, FL - A Miami Dade corrections officer was killed early Tuesday morning after her car was hit by a woman who allegedly ran a red light. Miami police said 21-year old Lena Harris of Georgia blew through a flashing red light at Northwest 46th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue and crashed into a car being driven by 41-year old corrections officer Rosa Echeverria. After the accident, Harris admitted to police she was not wearing her glasses or contacts as required. She was arrested, booked into jail, and bonded out Tuesday afternoon. Echeverria, a ten year veteran of the corrections department, worked at the Women's Detention Center at 4th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue. |
