SMITHERS, B.C. - The first evacuations got under way across the province Wednesday and residents of hundreds of other homes got ready to flee the surging river waters on short notice. Sandbagged dikes built by homeowners trying to save their properties along the Skeena River were holding in some instances, but not in others, said Public Safety Minister John Les. |
