Two correctional officers at the state prison's high-security unit were injured in a scuffle with inmates. A convict who's made headlines in the past is making them again. An ACI spokesman said Dennard Walker punched corrections officer in the face and when another officer came to help two other inmates asaulted him. Both officers are recovering. Walker admitted shooting Jennifer Rivera to keep her from testifying in the Charles Pona murder case. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the officers were escorting eight inmates outdoors for recreation. Three inmates were involved in the alleged assault, according to Kenneth Rivard, a spokesman for the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers. The officers, John Howard and Adam Klaus, both were treated for facial injuries. |
