SAVANNAH, GA - Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver liked what he was hearing Thursday morning. He was hearing solutions to myriad community problems. Mr. Copenhaver, and Commissioners Jerry Brigham and Calvin Holland, met with numerous state agency officials to talk about the corrections system. Brian Owens, the assistant commissioner of the Department of Corrections, said that of Georgia's 60,000-plus corrections population, about 2,000 are from Richmond County. Read more.
