MONTPELIER, VT - The Vermont Correctional Academy held its 91st graduation ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday at the Statehouse. Twenty-eight new officers will be sworn in and will join the ranks of the 600 correctional officers within the state's nine correctional facilities. The Correctional Academy has provided graduates with more than 200 hours of on-site facility and Academy training and testing in 34 subject and performance areas. Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, Agency of Human Services Secretary Cynthia LaWare and Department of Corrections Commissioner Robert Hofmann will be among the speakers. Located at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, the Correctional Academy has existed as the Department of Corrections' preservice training program since 1993 and has trained more than 1,000 recruit and veteran officers. |
