| Nearly 250 inmates earn academic credentials |

DOUGLAS, AZ - Steve Ickes, deputy director of the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC), declared a new tradition at the State Prison Complex in Douglas Friday, as nearly 250 inmates were awarded 300 academic credentials in two celebratory ceremonies hosted by Cochise College. Ickes described the new tradition as education and self-improvement, giving hope for a bright future to inmates who plan to say a permanent farewell to prison once they are released. The Cochise College Correctional Education Division, setting its sights on reducing recidivism by providing relevant education and training to help inmates acquire jobs, awarded more than 100 GEDs, 173 college Work-Based Education certificates, and two associate degrees.
