Setback as Wellington prison head resigns

NEW ZEALAND - A police unit set up to investigate incidents at Wellington's three prisons has suffered a big setback with the resignation of its lead officer.

Detective Sergeant Murray Porter was appointed to lead the unit earlier this year in a bid to free up Upper Hutt's frontline police, tackle prison violence and drugs, and stop criminals visiting inmates.

He stepped down four weeks ago and his position has now been readvertised. Read more.
