IRON COUNTY, UTAH - Iron County Sheriff Mark Gower presented two proposals at the County Commission meeting June 11. Those proposals were implementing the “Pay to Stay” program at the county jail and purchasing a new fingerprint scanner for routine fingerprinting. Gower said Utah House Bill 263 allows individual counties to recoup some of the cost of incarcerating those arrested and convicted for misdemeanor charges. He said they could be charged at what is called a “core rate,” which is the hard cost of housing an inmate, but no more than that.
