JACKSON TWP, PA — Residents were relieved to hear Thursday evening that the township has escaped a potential prison expansion. State Rep. Phyllis Mundy, D-Kingston, pulled the proposed construction of a $189 million, 2,300-bed second prison at the site of the existing State Correctional Institution at Dallas from the state’s capital budget Thursday, her office announced. State Sen. Lisa Baker, R-Lehman Township, has pledged to keep the expansion of SCI-Dallas off the capital budget, her chief of staff Brian Grove told the approximately 100 people attending a public input session in the Jackson Township fire hall.
