Work-release expansion won't affect county

YAKIMA, WA - A plan to double the state's work-release facilities probably won't have much immediate effect in Yakima, but long-term is a different story.

It turns out Yakima County is near the bottom of the state's list when it comes to needing more work-release beds in the near future, according to statistics released this week by the state Department of Corrections.

State statistics show the county already has 8 percent of the state's work-release beds, a total of 54. While those numbers may not seem like much, there are 15 other counties with no dedicated work-release beds. Read more.
