LACONIA, NH - A shortage of corrections officers is negatively impacting morale for those manning posts at the state's prisons, including the Lakes Region facility, and is forcing supervisors to regularly implement "forced overtime" just to fill the minimally safe number of staffers needed to fill shifts. While those working in the prisons say they have quality officers who are being "creative" in solving staffing problems, they are expressing concern about a situation that is taxing the remaining officers as the prison population grows faster than the budget that supports the Department of Corrections.
