MONTGOMERY, AL - State prison officials announced a far-reaching plan Wednesday to sell department acreage, including the state cattle ranch, and bring back inmates from Louisiana to reduce operating costs and eliminate a $26 million budget deficit. The department will sell 5,763 acres of state land, including the Farquhar State Cattle Ranch in Greensboro, to generate $16.3 million to $23.8 million for capital improvement projects, officials said.
