SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The news media would be given greater access to interview prison inmates under legislation approved Thursday by the state Assembly, setting the stage for another showdown with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lawmakers also approved bills that would provide $146 million to build a new medical center at San Quentin Prison and allow farm workers to unionize by signing membership cards instead of holding elections.
