| State plans to stop prison work crews |

LANSING, MI - More than 1,500 state prison inmates who cut grass, shovel snow and perform some other work at relatively low cost for local governments are being idled in a cost-cutting move by the Michigan Department of Corrections. The plans were announced Tuesday as the state prison system is trying to save money during Michigan's government budget crunch.
