| Secretary takes medical leave for back pain |

BATON ROUGE, LA - Corrections Secretary Richard Stalder is taking four months of medical leave for back problems which will require an operation in August. Stalder said he has assured the Blanco administration that he'll be in touch with his department by phone and e-mail while he recovers. "I'll be able to have my hand on the wheel," he said Monday. He went on extended medical leave Monday, telling his senior staff in a memo last week that "less radical measures have not been successful" and he will need long rest and healing. Read more.
