State collecting DNA from parolees

CONCORD, NH - New Hampshire's Corrections Department says it will begin collecting DNA samples from sexual or violent offenders on parole or probation.

It's an extension of a program in which samples already are being taken from inmates in prison. Corrections officials say the parole and probation collections will begin in district offices over the next few months.

Samples, from mouth swabs, are analyzed and logged in a national criminal database, so police around the country can compare samples in criminal investigations. Read more.
