AUSTRALIA - A SURVIVOR of the Hoddle St massacre is "gobsmacked" that killer Julian Knight is being allowed to sue, on the public purse, for the right to write to his victims. < Stephen Wight, who was shot in the head and chest, said the mass murderer's victory yesterday, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the tragedy, was a slap in the face. "I was gobsmacked -- just couldn't get a word out," he said. I felt like the legal system had let victims of crime completely down." The Supreme Court ruled Knight could pursue legal action against jail authorities who seized a letter of apology he wrote to a victim. This was despite a ruling in October 2004 banning Knight from taking legal action because he was a vexatious litigant. Read more.
