Would-be whistleblower sues corrections |

PRINCETON, WV - A former state Division of Juvenile Services employee is suing the Department of Corrections, saying her superiors harassed and threatened her for trying to report racial and sexual comments. According to a lawsuit filed in Kanawha Circuit Court last week, Pamela McBride Jordan says she was transferred against her will in August 2004 and ultimately fired a year later after she tried to take action on staff complaints of racial slurs and inappropriate sexual comments. Jordan, who worked as the correctional counselor and equal employment officer at the Southern Regional Juvenile Detention Center (now the Sam Perdue Juvenile Center) in Princeton, said she was promised a promotion and a big raise, the lawsuit maintains. Instead, the 14-year veteran was escorted from the building without being allowed to retrieve her belongings, and was given the title of Community Resource Counselor but assigned no duties.
