CINCINNATI, OH - As the chief fiscal officer for Ross County, I feel compelled to comment on the Chillicothe Gazette's recent article regarding "county jail overcrowding." Although the original article and headline contained a significant error, I appreciate the Gazette quickly correcting this error when I brought it to their attention. To be clear, the original article stated the jail inmate count was at 192 prisoners during the last inspection, which would have been double the rated capacity. Actually, there were 148 prisoners in the jail during this inspection. However, the state would like to see no more than 102 prisoners at any one time. Read more.
