A cleaning accident causes police and fire crews to evacuate a Salt Lake City, Utah, corrections building. Officers say they were called to the Orange Street Corrections building just before 10:00 last Sunday night. Two women accidentally mixed together bleach and ammonia while they were cleaning the building. Police say the chemicals created a deadly gas that filled the corrections center, causing 50 inmates and four employees to be evacuated. Lt. Tim Doubt/ Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "They had poured some ammonia into a container that had a little bit of bleach in it, and the reaction was putting off the gas." Only two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police say everyone was able to return to the correctional facility last night. |
