County considers company to operate jail

PARKER COUNTY, TX - Parker County may soon have a privately run jail. Commissioners plan to vote today on a contract with CiviGenics to manage the jail. The company is based in Marlborough, Mass.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said officials have been considering privatizing the jail to save tax dollars and to add more patrol officers.

"The more I learned about it, the more I liked the idea," he said.

Fowler, along with County Judge Mark Riley and other officials, served on a committee to study jail privatization. If commissioners vote in favor of the proposal for CiviGenics to run the jail, the contract would begin Oct. 1. Read more.
