PHOENIX, AZ - Arizona state inmates have raised nearly $850,000 in cash and in-kind contributions for state crime victims’ organizations in the last four years. The fund-raising is part of the state’s annual crime victims’ rights week. Inmates participate in fund-raisers that are held throughout the year at every state prison. “The Department is proud of the inmate population’s efforts,” AZDOC Director Dora Schiro says. “Their sustained efforts make the most of the time that they are serving.” Schiro initiated the fund-raising in 2004 when she established the department’s new Victims Services unit. Inmates raised $446,845 in FY 2007, which was more money than they raised during the first three years, FY 2004 through FY 2006, combined. |
