A man charged with murdering two people in Manchester, N.H., has taken the Hillsborough County Jail to federal court, claiming corrections officers beat him. Christopher Beltran, 23, wants a federal judge to transfer him out of the jail immediately. Beltran said he's been abused because he wrote to the Justice Department alleging an elderly inmate died in his cell after being refused treatment for chest pains and breathing problems. Beltran also wrote that prisoners were being beaten. He said the letter was intercepted by jail authorities and never made it to Washington. Jail Superintendent James OMara and the county's legal counsel, Carolyn Kirby, did not comment. |
