NEW ZEALAND - Corrections officials say it is just about impossible to stop people trying to smuggle cell phones into Rimutaka Prison. It has been revealed that inmates using smuggled cell phones arranged to import $1million worth of methamphetamine from Thailand in March. Karen Irwin from the Corrections Department says the cell phones were found by prison [officers] in a routine search and were passed on to police investigating the case. She says because phones are so small these days, people often try to smuggle them in internally. Ms Irwin says she would be more concerned if staff were not finding any contraband. Read more.
