A jury in southern Illinois failed to reach a verdict last week on all charges in the trial of three white inmates at the federal prison in Marion who were accused of killing a black prisoner. According to the U-S Attorney's office, David Sahakian, Carl Knorr and Scott McIntosh were convicted of hiding knives. But the jury was hung on murder and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors had alleged that Sahakian ordered two other inmates to kill Terry Walker in 1999 in a war against blacks. Sahakian is the reputed leader of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang at Marion. Prosecutors call the gang one of the most powerful in the country. |
