| Alaska correctional and probation training moved |

PALMER, ALASKA - Beginning Oct. 1, training for state correctional and probation officers moves to Palmer from the Dimond Boulevard facility the state Corrections Department shares with the Anchorage Police Department. Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt said the move puts corrections training closer to a wider number of employees. Of the 13 field offices and 12 correctional facilities, only two are within 50 miles of the Dimond Boulevard training center, Schmidt said. The Palmer site, which is an old Valley hospital building now owned by the state, will be within 50 miles of five correctional facilities and two field offices.
