| Bigger jail could cost $10M |

GENESEE COUNTY, MI - Police and county officials are talking about building their way out of an overcrowding crisis - maybe by stacking two new floors on top of the county jail. The president of CHMP Inc. told the county's Jail Overcrowding Task Force on Thursday that capacity could be nearly doubled at the jail by adding two stories and estimated the cost at $10 million. "It was designed to accommodate those additional floors, (and) you're doubling the capacity of the jail at less than half the cost of the original" building, said David L. Hanoute, president of CHMP, an architectural and engineering firm in Grand Blanc Township. "(That's) an absolute bargain." Read more.
