| GPS ankle bracelets little help |

NEW ZEALAND - Some offenders sentenced to home detention or on parole will wear GPS ankle bracelets that will check their location by satellite, the Corrections Department has announced. But their uses will be limited and Corrections says it is not worth investing in more of the bracelets, after it bought 20 to trial on 42 offenders last year. The bracelets, which cost $8000 each, will be fitted to up to 60 offenders each year - or 15 at any one time - once judges can sentence people to home detention in October. Read more.
