| Ala. brings 134 inmates back from LA |

ALABAMA - Prisons commissioner Richard Allen announced Tuesday that 134 male inmates would be returning to the state from a Louisiana prison. It is the first of several planned transfers to bring 1,100 male and female inmates back from out-of-state facilities in order to save the department nearly $10 million a year. Allen said the male inmates would be coming from West Carroll Detention Center in Epps, La. and would be taken to the Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest, Ala. The department plans to bring all out of state inmates back by the end of the year, he said. ADOC first moved inmates to the West Carroll facility in January of 2007 and first began utilizing contract beds in the summer of 2003. Read more.
