MARTINEZ, CA - The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office is embracing new technology to manage inmates more efficiently while saving time and paper, officials say. The county is the first in the Bay Area -- and second in the state after Monterey County -- to use retinal scans for suspect identification. The technology, developed by the Martinez-based company SecuriMetrics, has been working with the county to expedite the jail's intake process for over a year. Read more.
