| State considers loggers’ bid for ranch timber |

ALABAMA - Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said Wednesday that it could be late September before timber bids that were opened on Tuesday result in contracts that will then be submitted to Gov. Bob Riley to review. “So my guess is six to eight weeks before contracts will make it back to the loggers," he said. The department has already sold 540 acres of its Farquhar State Cattle Ranch in Hale County for $1.6 million, and it wants to sell the rest of the ranch, along with prison property in other counties. Corbett said no timetable has been set for the cattle ranch sale. “However, indications are that we want this to happen sooner rather than later," he said. Read more.
