A Webster County (Mo.) jailer accused of sexual contact with a female inmate has been fired, Sheriff Ron Warsham said. Two counts accusing him of the illegal sexual contact were filed Tuesday morning against George Bissell, 51, of Marshfield. He had been arrested Monday and taken to the jail in neighboring Christian County, where he was still being held Tuesday night. County prosecuting attorney Cynthia Black filed the felony charges against Bissell on Tuesday morning. She had asked the sheriff for an investigation after getting a letter from another female inmate last Friday. The investigation is continuing, and Black said additional charges may be filed. A woman who is now in the Greene County Jail told investigators that she had performed oral sex on Bissell on three occasions at the Webster County Jail last month. On Monday, Bissell told authorities that the inmate had touched him but wouldn't say whether there was oral sex, according to a court documents. A former volunteer chaplain at the Webster County Jail, William R. Rethford, 64, is charged with touching male inmates inappropriately. He had already been charged with three counts of felony sexual assault, and now faces a fourth count accusing him of groping a prisoner during a search last October, Black said. |
