MISSOURI - Johnson County has a new crime-fighting tool to relieve overcrowded jails, save tax money and help convicted offenders get their lives on a more productive course. When it is launched in October, a Department of Corrections work-release program will allow many four-time DUI offenders to hold jobs while they serve their typical 90-day sentences. Convicted offenders earn wages so they can pay taxes and repay victims while learning life skills through programs that deal with finances, frustration and faith. Read more.
