CALIFORNIA - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and local officials are trying to whip up opposition to any move by the courts to release thousands of prison inmates before they've completed their sentences. Schwarzenegger and a clutch of GOP Assembly members, sheriffs, police chiefs and district attorneys gathered at a Sacramento Police Department substation Thursday morning to make public their opposition to early release, which a panel of three judges is contemplating as a way to relieve chronic overcrowding in California prisons.
