| Lynch decries law trying teens as adults |

RHODE ISLAND - Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch is sharply criticizing the new law that requires 17-year-olds to be prosecuted as adults, saying this “budgetary fix” is a “dangerous concept” that has created widespread confusion because other sections of law weren’t changed to reflect the new reality. But while he doesn’t like the new law, Lynch is spelling out what it means for municipal lawyers and police departments, saying, for example, that police departments must release arrest reports for 17-year-olds and the police are no longer required to have an adult present when they interrogate a 17-year-old.
