CALIFORNIA - Shasta County's Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed Tuesday to begin talks with prison officials about creating a transitional prison facility designed to help reduce the state's prison populations and recidivism rate. A re-entry facility in Shasta County, with up to 500 beds, would help former residents switch from life behind bars to life in steady jobs, homes and substance-free living, prison officials say.
