| First Fla. graduates make history |

FLORIDA - The 25 students graduating today from the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at Polk Community College will be making history. They will be the first to graduate from the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety since it was officially accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., also known as CALEA. The institute is the first police academy in Florida and the first community college training academy in the nation to earn accreditation from CALEA, an independent, nonprofit corporation, said Steve Mitchell, program manager for CALEA.
