| Hidden office found in courthouse basement |

The county has discovered a business that officials say has been in the basement for 14 years — rent free. Pike Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford informed the court of the situation Tuesday while asking permission to sign a lease agreement with the Department of Corrections for the office holding the Division of Mental Health. “We found them when we were looking for vacant space,” Executive Assistant Bobby Branham said, because the county opted to move the departments of energy and economic development into the basement. “We had never seen anyone down there.” Read more.
