| Parole board not subject to open meeting law |

NEVADA - Ending debate over an issue that for a time suspended parole hearings and spilled into the meeting rooms at the 2007 Legislature, the Nevada Supreme Court has ruled the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners is not subject to the state's Open Meeting Law. Parole hearings "are quasi-judicial proceedings," Justice Michael Douglas wrote in a 5-2 decision that was released Thursday on an appeal filed by John Witherow, an inmate at a state prison.
