| Public gets tour of new jail |

NEW YORK - Although an opening date for the new Essex County Jail in Lewis has yet to be set, its doors opened to the public Saturday for tours. The new facility also houses the new Essex County Emergency Services offices and 911 call center. A maze of stainless steel, white concrete and state-of-the-art security systems, the jail can house 120 inmates as soon as it gets approval from the state Department of Corrections. Read more.
