| Jail project probe under way |

NEW YORK - The Ulster County District Attorney's Office has begun an investigation into what a special legislative committee on Monday called the "unfair advantage" and "backdoor hiring" of firms associated with construction of the county's $95.2 million Law Enforcement Center. Specifically, the committee asked that the office focus its investigation on former Legislature Chairman Ward Todd, R-Shandaken, former county Buildings and Grounds Commissioner Harvey Sleight; former County Attorney Francis Murray; and Richard Gerentine, R-Marlboro, a former Legislature chairman.
