| Former facility may be veterans center |

MINNESOTA - A group of legislators met Thursday in Sauk Centre to visit a site for a possible veterans center. Supporters hope to use the former Oak Ridge Regional Corrections Facility site as a center for veterans and their families. The center would be a regional gathering place where veterans could address family needs, such as relationships and how children handle the stress of deployments. Nancy Gertener is associate chairwoman of the DFL Veterans Caucus and has been organizing the push for the center. The success of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program in welcoming Minnesota National Guard soldiers home after serving in Iraq showed how community-based work can help veterans, Gertener said.
