State must rein in prison medical costs

MICHIGAN - The state must rein in the costs of health care in prisons if it is to solve its budget troubles in the future, Tom Clay, a former deputy state treasurer, told a group of influential policymakers today.

Tax increases approved earlier this week in Lansing didn’t structurally change the state budget, Clay told about 300 policy makers from across the state who gathered in Troy this morning for the annual meeting of the Citizens Research Council. Read more.
