A former Arkadelphia High School student who was awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Correction is expected to be charged with assaulting a Clark County Sheriff's deputy March 5. Sheriff Troy Tucker said Andrew Robinson, 17, did not want to return to his cell on after being let out for an exercise period. Deputy David Hathcoat went to the area to assist jailers with Robinson and was struck "once or twice" in the face and nose by the inmate. Hathcoat was treated at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia and released. Tucker said Hathcoat's treatment consisted "mainly of cleaning it up." The deputy's nose was badly bruised, but was not broken, Tucker said. Robinson had been sentenced to serve two years in a community punishment center for two counts of terroristic threatening and one count of communicating a false alarm to an educational institution. Robinson had called in bomb threats to the high school, the police department and the local Wal-Mart SuperCenter. He made the calls from the phone in a classroom at the high school. Tucker said Robinson will be transported to the Department of Correction "as soon as possible." Robinson has caused other incidents and disturbances while in custody, Tucker said. "He's not going to behave." The teenager has also put the lives of the other inmates in danger. "He set a fire in here the other day." The sheriff said charges against Robinson in connection with the assault and the fire will be pursued. |
